Gardens-in-the-sand is a vision of community where the principals of the xeric garden are explored.
- Selection
If a thousand seeds are planted, and 2 or 3 plants live to set seed, those survivers are likely to have
genes especially suited to the xeriscape garden. 2 or 3 generations of selection should result in self-selected superiour
plants.
- Soil building
By the process of adding organic amendments to the soil, there will be a greater capacity to retain the natural
moisture that drops from the sky.
- Naturally xeric plants
Many plants are already suited to dry conditions. By cultivating the flowering plants naturally occurring on the
property, a built-in selection of plants will grace our gardens.
I envision an arts and crafts community here at Gardens-in-the-sand. I'm presently developing camp sites, temporary shelter, and gardens.
Due to the newness of the property purchase, there is no housing available.
People who feel at home here are encouraged to build.
-
After being robbed of 15 years work at a drainbow community, A very kind person purchased some land for me to attempt to get back on my feet again.
-
I'd like to pass it forward & offer a leg up to other people with a dream.
-
I hope to build a community that hosts a craft fair to showplace our work.
-
I grow flowers, vegetables, & other goodies for the home landscape.
-
Someone who created yard statuary, or other yard art would dove-tail nicely with what I'm trying to do.
-
Any arts & crafts are welcome, tell me your dream.
-
I'm sorry, but to insure a safe environment for all, absolutely no drugs or drinking will be tolerated on or off the property.
I envision a community where the value of our ideas for the future is reflected by the evidence of our past accomplishments,
where promotional ability is not as relevent as demonstrated abilities.
An example of this:
Someone who has built a house that is comfortable and liveable will have more input in future housing decisions than the person who builds a shack.
There are plenty of communities where personalities have more to do with decisions than ablility. Gardens-in-the-sand will be a horse of a different breed.
I have work in the area. People who are genuinely interested in plants and have good work ethic may be gainfully employed.
